Curcumin is the active compound found in Turmeric. Commonly used as a spice in Asian countries, Turmeric has a long medicinal history associated with its use. Modern-day research is suggesting Curumin is a potent polyphenol with anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and neuroprotective benefits.
Curcumin has Anti-inflammatory Effects
Curcumin’s anti-inflammatory effects is one of the key reasons we chose to include it in our Athletic Tincture.
To understand why counteracting inflammation is necessary, It’s important to remember that intense training–particularly resistance training–results in muscle damage. In the simplest terms, your recovery from that damage is what leads to the gains you are looking to get through training. And, a key part of that recovery is managed by some inflammation. However, excess inflammation leads to all sorts of issues. If you’ve ever experienced delayed-onset muscle soreness (DOMs) or plain old stiff muscles, then you had excess inflammation.
So, if excess inflammation is the problem, then the key to recovery and improved capacity to continue training is to manage inflammation. In a number of studies, Curcumin has been found to do just that. It’s both demonstrated reduced biological inflammation and suggested a potential for reducing DOMS. And, in a double blind-randomized study, participants taking it orally both before and after intense exercises found that it reduced the overall pain associated with DOMs compared to placebo.
