Is CBD legal? Mostly – as long as it is derived from hemp (like ours), it is federally legal in the United States and in 2018 the World Anti-Doping Agency updated their rules, permitting the use of CBD (Cannabidiol).
THC, however, still remains prohibited. Federal regulations restrict THC content in hemp-derived products to 0.3% and some sports organizations completely prohibit THC, so our THC-Free tincture is an especially great product for those athletes participating in officially regulated competitions.
Most sports organizations follow the WADA rules, so you should be in the clear to incorporate CBD with your training. However, while it’s completely legal to use hemp-derived products with up to 0.3% THC content throughout the United States, WADA rules prohibit any amount of THC found in athletes from testing. Furthermore, specific leagues–such as the NFL–have yet to remove their prohibition on CBD despite its benign (we’d argue potentially beneficial) effects. And to complicate matters even more, some organizations have stopped testing for cannabis altogether, leaving a gray area where CBD supplements are actively supported, but also not prohibited.
To make it easier to follow, we’ve organized the following comprehensive chart by state, sport, and organization so that you can take CBD with certainty.
